SEPTEMBER 2 and 3 - TRAVEL TO CEDAR CITY, UT Plus KOLOB CANYON and CEDAR BREAKS

SUNDAY
SEPTEMBER 2, 2012

We had a travel briefing at 11:30 AM,
to talk about the opportunities to see things
along the way to Cedar City, and after we arrived there.
We only had a short 45 mile haul, which left
us with plenty of time to sight see in the
afternoon.  We left Hurricane, UT
at 12:32 PM and arrived at Cedar City KOA
by 1:24 PM.

We drove into town for lunch, and then
returned to Camp so Russ could rehearse
with other musicians on our Tour,
in preparation for them providing
entertainment at one of our events.

I took the opportunity to write a Blog
about our August 31st Bus Trip to ZION.
and also got our personal blog:
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
up to date.

MONDAY
SEPTEMBER 3, 2012

Our day began with a tour of
 FRONTIER HOMESTEAD STATE PARK MUSEUM,
just one mile from Cedar City KOA.

The Director did an Orientation for us, and
showed a Development video
before we saw how well the Museum had
fulfilled the original plans.

The variety of areas made it an exceptionally interesting
Museum, both inside and outside.
The Gronway Parry carriage collection was originally the life
long collection of two brothers who were
prominent businessmen in Cedar City.

White Hearse was used for Children
and Black Hearse for Adults circa 1850's.

Jay and Lee Ferrette
the first two folks on our Tour
that we met August 27th.

The alcove where we gathered
 to watch the Orientation Video
had many Movie posters on the walls.
This one was exciting for me to
see, since it was dated 1943 and
was the first movie I can
recall my parents taking me to see.

The Director told us that many movies
had been filmed in the Cedar City area,
using the Carriages from their
collection, when they were owned by
the original owners.

This 1854 Map of the United States
was on the wall of their
one room School House,
of that period.

Russ and I took a drive out to KOLOB CANYON,
section of ZION NATIONAL PARK,
and walked a one mile trail that gave us
excellent views of the scenery.
