DAY ONE - June 18, 2012
Our great adventure began at 8:25 AM. We arrived at our camp site by 4:25 PM. Today was uneventful until we were twenty minutes away from Milan, Ohio. At approximately 3:38PM, a wild wind, rain, hail, thunder and lightening storm hit the area, and lasted about 30 minutes. We were so blessed to see an Emergency pull over parking area that had space for us. The rain was so intense that you could not see more than a few vehicles ahead, which certainly would not have been adequate for us to stop our 33 foot RV in. We prayed our way through the storm, because we looked along the edge of the road, and our truck was straight in the path of a tree that was swaying violently, looking as though it might come our way, any minute. It sure is a comfort to know that so many of our family and friends are praying for our safe travels. Someone besides us must have been storming heaven on our behalf during that storm.
We saw lots of Vineyards in what would be called Lake Niagara (Erie) area. They are distressed looking when you get up close. They no doubt needed this drenching rain to fill out the grapes that were only pea size at this point. I enjoyed the walk over to get a close up photo, just the same.
If you are keeping track of our journey on a map, we are as far as Milan, Ohio tonight. We passed through a small portion of Pennsylvania, on our way here.
Where are you headed? Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWe are taking a trip of our lifetime to see the National Parks, and all the places neither of us have seen, as well as returning to many places that one of us has visited way back in the 70's. We realize things will be different, especially the price of gas. In 1971 when I took my family on a three week trip to Colorado, via some National Parks, gas was averaging 29 cents a gallon. Of course, I was only earning $125 per week salary, back then, and my mortgage payment was only $105 per month. How times have changed!
DeletePoints West would be a good general description. All around the outer edges of the USA would also cover it pretty well.
An important part of Getting Ready, is saying our good-byes. Today the ladies of my Bible Sharing group concluded our time together with The Blessing of Travelers which I found in the June issue of Magnificat. It gave me such a warm peaceful feeling as we read the words. I sensed that God would surely be with us on our Journey. I'm looking forward to having other folks we see before leaving, pray The Blessing of Travelers with us too.
