DAY 26 - JACKSON HOLE, WY - WORT HOTEL - SILVER DOLLAR GRILL

FRIDAY, JULY 13, 2012

We are in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a few days.  Because the weather was overcast, and threatening, we just relaxed until about 3 PM, when we made a trip to the Post Office.  We
had our first taste of a busy resort town with heavy,  late Friday afternoon traffic.  It reminded
us of home in Henrietta and Greece, at a similar time.  We had forgotten what that was like in the many small towns we have been staying in.

Our gem for the day was learning that a local Hotel was featuring a Dixieland Jazz Band in their Grill, so we timed our dinner to take advantage of the opportunity to hear the Jackson Six from 7:30 to 11 PM.  What a treat that was.

The following pictures were as much fun to take as some of the wildflowers I have shared.  The
WORT HOTEL is a significant part of Jackson Hole.  This town was founded in 1914, and original hotel was build in 1941, as their first luxury hotel.  It had a devastating fire in 1980, but has been restored and is a fascinating place to visit.  See their website at:  www.worthotel.com .

THE SILVER DOLLAR BAR takes its name from 2032 un-circulated 1921 Silver Dollars
inlaid in the serpentine bar.  Thirteen original leather murals by western artist Paul Clowes
adorn the cornice above the bar.  Gambling was a primary attraction in the early days of
the Silver Dollar/Wort Hotel, and many colorful stories help shape the lore of this Jackson
Hole landmark.

The Lobby of the Wort Hotel was like entering an Art Gallery with lovely paintings,
and several Bronze Statues, and several Trophy Animal heads.

As I talked with the Doorman, a patron came along
and said he could never pass the
bronze Dancers without
giving them a spin.  He loved the expression
of true love on their faces.
The Bannister mounting was
like a Lazy Susan, and the couple
truly did spin around.
I took a few steps up the staircase to get a
closer view of their faces.

Part of the fun for Russ and me, was having a ring side seat,
at the edge of the dance floor, where we could watch
and enjoy the many couples who appeared to have been
professional dancers.

We had a memorable Friday night in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
