DAY 31 - YELLOWSTONE NAT'L PARK - Elk, Mammoth Hot Springs

WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 2012

We were "on the road again" by 10:15AM.  We stopped quickly when Rita spotted a herd of ELK along the waters edge, just 11 miles into our journey.  Not only did we both video them, but Rita got some great still photos, as they proceeded to ford the stream, and came within 25 feet of her.

The entire group appeared to consist of four adult females, and three Fawns.
Can you see the spots on the little one?

This female was so close I could see the veins on her nose.

Today was so full of wonderful sights and surprising sights.

I was astounded to see a Kildeer bird walking in the run off from one of the Steamboat Geyser Basins.  She had four chicks with her.  They were about the size of golf balls, and eventually all four stuffed themselves under the Momma, to take a rest from the run.

where at the end of our drive for today.

On our way back to our RV in West Glacier,
we stopped at the Norris Geyser Basin and walked to Steamboat Geyser
which was very active at that time.
