DAY 30 - YELLOWSTONE NAT'L PARK - OLD FAITHFUL

TUESDAY, JULY 17, 2012

It was Noon by the time we cleared camp today.  A nice 67 degrees and sunny, made for great pictures at Old Faithful.  We sat in the cool sun, for almost an hour in order to catch the eruption at approximately 2:27 PM MT.  It lasted 3 minutes and 40 seconds as recorded by Russ with his Camcorder.  I video'd and took pictures, too.  What a thrilling sight to see.

We had our lunch in the truck before driving some of the same road we had covered on Monday.  This time, we stopped at the West Thumb Geyser Basin and walked the trails which overlooked Yellowstone Lake.  We watched a female ELK eating the bark off a tree, near one of the Geysers.

This helped explain why we have seen so many trees that seem to have their bark stripped from the base to the first limbs.  I imagine in the winter they have the additional height they can reach, depending on the depth of the snow.

Our time in the Park stretched as we made more and more stops.  Russ says we walked four miles today, and that was so we could view the Geysers and the awesome Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Waterfalls.

We concluded our day at Yellowstone by
 seeing our first MOOSE.

9:01 PM

God's Grande Finale to our day.
