OCTOBER 2 - GALLUP, NM to ALBUQUERQUE, NM

TUESDAY
OCTOBER 2, 2012

It was a sunny 54 degrees this morning
when we left USA RV Park, and took
Historic US Route 66, through Gallup, NM.

We enjoyed briefly returning to Gallup,
where the trains pass through town on
average every fourteen minutes,
according to the man in the Rex Museum yesterday.
He seemed to get a kick out my delight
 in seeing the trains passing
along side of Historic Route US 66,
across the street from the Museum.

This group of Arch murals depict town life,
including Coal Mining.

Native Pottery is a popular
item sold in over 100 Trading Centers
in and around Gallup, NM.

The Santa Fe is one of the many lines
that pass through town, daily.

We like many others had to cross the
railroad tracks to get onto
Interstate 40 East,
from Historic Rt. 66.

Train after train hauling oil cars kept us company
on the track that ran along side Interstate 40.

Shortly after entering Interstate 40 East,
an unmarked car sped passed us with lights flashing.
In a few minutes we saw this accident scene,
and began praying for all involved.
The tractor trailer was straight across the
opposite lane, of a divided highway.

Since there was only a two mile traffic tie-up,
we believe the accident must have
 happened minutes before.

We soon discovered where some of the
oil tankers must have been, or
were going.  This refinery was
23 miles East of  where we started
our day in Gallup.

Would you believe this gorgeous wall hanging
was in the entry of Camper's World,
 on the outskirts of Albuquerque?

We shopped there, and came
away thrilled to have
purchased two items we
have wanted all Summer.

We purchased a special RV edition of
Magellan RoadMate RV9165T-LM.
This  new toy has a 7" GPS Navigator
that includes:
 Customizable RV Routes
FREE Lifetime Traffic Alerts
FREE Lifetime Map Updates
Highway Lane Assist
6 Million Points of Interest
Highway Exit Point of Interest Search
Spoken Street Names
Good Sam/Trailer Life Directory
Bluetooth

We have to charge it, and can begin
using it tomorrow.

We have also wanted a decal style map
for our RV door,
and finally found one on SALE
at half the price we had seen in
a catalog.
After all the States we have traveled in
this Summer, we will have
no trouble making it look
colorful on our white door.

Approaching Albuquerque,
with the Mountains as a backdrop.

We are told that we are three miles from
the area where they launch the Balloons
for the Annual Balloon Festival
which is October 6 - 14th this year.
We must be out of our site by
10 AM on Friday, October 5th.
We might get a glimpse of
some early launches
if we get up early enough.

Stay tuned.
I hope to have at least one good photo
of a Balloon to show you before we leave.
