SEPTEMBER 28 - GRAND CANYON - HERMIT'S REST - FAREWELL DINNER

FRIDAY
SEPTEMBER 28, 2012

We started our day with lunch
at the Yavapai Lodge Cafe.

After lunch, we took the Blue line West to
connect with the Red line, and rode out to
Hermit's Rest.  While we waited for the connecting
bus, we took photos of black birds that were riding the currents over
the Canyon.  We think we caught a  CONDOR,
on video,
gliding back and forth in front of us
but did not react quickly enough to
click the shutter for a still.
What an awesome sight they are.
We are pretty sure this bird is a RAVEN.

We are glad we had lunch at Yavapai Lodge,
because Hermit's Rest does not have
full Cafeteria service.
When they say" Snacks" that
meant cold vending machine type
sandwiches, chips, cold beverages and ice cream.

Entrance to the Hermit's Rest facility
which had a small gift shop and restrooms.

Overall the trip to Hermit's Rest,
was not worth our time,
compared with other destinations on the bus lines.
Perhaps it was because of the full sun, and
haze that prevented crisp, bright colors in our photos.

The best part of the trip out to Hermit's Rest
was our chance meeting of two
members of our Fantasy RV Tour Group,
Adrian and Brian.
Meeting them, gave us an opportunity
to get to know them better
while they had lunch,
and on the ride back to our
Trailer Village bus stop.

The Grande Finale of our Tour was our
FAREWELL DINNER
in Yavapai Lodge
Dining Area.

As we arrived, we had the pleasure of
being serenaded by
David Ricketts
playing a half hour of
Saxaphone music with
accompanyment.
It put us in a "Jazzy" mood,
and certainly was enjoyed by
several of our couples who danced
during part of the time David played
before Dinner.

We enjoyed having tables of six
so that it was easy to carry on
conversations, and even
at this late point,
get better acquainted
with our table mates.

Tributes were extended to our
Wagon Masters and Tail Gunners,
and Certificates given to all the
tour members.

Wagon Masters
Bob and Penny Wyllie

Tail Gunners,
Evelyn and Larry Stark

We all took turns telling our
favorite part of the Tour,
and that varied as much as the individuals.

I was surprised to hear that one person
had taken a PLANE ride over Grand Canyon,
while many others had opted to
take a MULE ride while we were in Bryce Canyon.
Those Optional experiences had been the highlight
of the Tour for those folks.

Having a resident herd of ELK
in and around our Trailer Village
campground was a big thrill for me.
In my opinion,
the GRAND CANYON
was the perfect
Grande Finale to our 33 day Tour.
