WEDNESDAY
SEPTEMBER 26, 2012
We broke camp this morning by 9:55 AM,
and headed to the South Rim
via State 67, and then US Hwy 89A South.
The elevation was 7,952 ft. at that point.
By 12:57 PM, we entered Grand Canyon National Park.
We stopped at Grandview Point overlook,
and after taking pictures,
were about to return to our truck.
However, God had other plans.
A couple from Albion, Maine arrived
and offered to take our picture,
and we took theirs in return.
We proceeded to talk for over 30 minutes.
We discovered they were celebrating their 30th
wedding anniversary by making the trip to
Grand Canyon, just as we were doing.
So, we hope Dale and Sandy are
safely home, by the time they read this blog.
We look forward to visiting them, and
having Dale take us fishing in Maine, in the future.
By 2:30PM, we arrived at our destination of
Trailer Village Hook-ups,
a campground within Grand Canyon National Park.
We were greeted by 3 ELK.
We were told that ten had been
seen there the day before.
Bull Elk
I counted at least twelve points.
This second Bull Elk
was bugling for the "girls".
One of the "girls".
Once we had settled in,
we decided to take a drive to see some of
the Vistas we had passed on our way
into the Park campground.
At Pipe Creek Vista Russ found a camera.
We drove to the Visitor's Center area,
thinking they might have a Lost and Found.
It had closed 15 minutes before we arrived at 5:15PM.
Back to our RV, we began viewing the pictures,
on the found camera.
It appears the owner flew into San Francisco,
later went to Las Vegas, and then
toured many of the same National Parks
we had visited. They took similar pictures,
right down to the birds and flowers,
and signs to tell them where they had been.
What a heart breaker for them to lose
these precious memories.
We began playing detective,
in our efforts to get the camera back
to its rightful owner.
We had only a Camera Store receipt
from England
in the camera case to go on.
We e-mailed the Camera Store
to see if they had a way to contact
their customer, since the customer
did not have contact information with the camera.
A lesson for us.
We put labels on our cameras, right away.
The next day we took the Shuttle
to the Grand Canyon Lost and Found
near the Train Station.
They have acknowledged receipt of the Camera,
and we have forwarded that additional
information to England.
We hope we will hear soon,
that the Camera and Owners
have been reunited.
They had not contacted Lost and Found,
at the time we turned the camera in at Noon
on September 27th..
We have three messages for our English Visitors:
God answers prayers.
There are honest people in the USA.
We share your appreciation of the
Gift our National Parks
are to all of us.
