Following lunch we focused on seeing the local Churches within
walking distance of the Plaza which is the center of Old Santa Fe.
The first we visited was the Loretto Chapel ($3.00 each).
It has a remarkable Double Spiral Staircase built
without central or side supports, or any nails .
A tree outside the Chapel door
was strung with
Rosary beads, to honor Our Lady of Loretto.

We took time to walk over to the Georgia O'Keeffe
Museum on Johnson Street.
Unfortunately, we arrived a few minutes after
4 PM, and they were due to close at 5PM.
Since I had my heart set on seeing the Museum,
we paid $10 per person for 50 minutes to see
the nine small galleries.
They contained early sketches, and watercolors,
some of her clothing, photographs by her husband,
during their coutrship, and later years, copies of their correspondence,
and of course, many of her paintings.
We were not allowed to take pictures.
Russ was even encouraged to put his Camcorder
in a locker. I carried my camera on my
neck, and without realizing it was forbidden,
took one photo before a guard asked me
to take no more pictures.
I have a feeling they wanted us to buy their post cards
that cost $1.50 each, and note cards for $3.00 each.
Neither Russ nor I felt our visit was worth
the $20 for what we saw there.
Our FREE visit to the Nedar Matteucci Galleries and Gardens
in the morning, was a far more
exciting and memorable experience.
I would encourage you to check their websites,
and decide for yourself.
We attended 5:15 PM Mass at
The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assissi.
The Main Altar
SAINT KATERI TEKAKWITHA

Her canonization will take

NOTE: This is the third time on our trip
that we have seen statues in her honor.
