THURSDAY
AUGUST 9, 2012
Thursday was a travel day,
of only 140 miles.
We saw our first Palm trees.
We arrived at Richardson's Grove Campground
by 3 PM.
It was so foggy most of the day,
that we passed on taking pictures.
FRIDAY
AUGUST 10, 2012
We relaxed in the morning, and took a drive to see more
Redwoods in the afternoon. Our first stop was
close to the campground.
We were allowed into Richardson Grove State Park
with a One Hour Pass,
to go to the Visitor Center
and walk a short half mile trail.
Otherwise, it would have cost
$8.00 for a day pass.
Our goal for today is to drive the 32 miles
AVENUE OF THE GIANTS
which has 8 stops, with
interpretive signs,
and a Visitors Center at
HUMBOLDT REDWOOD STATE PARK.
Other visitors took this picture for us.
at Stop #2, the BOLLING GROVE.
At Stop #5,
We measured one large tree and it was 515.5 INCHES around.
My tape was 120 inches, and we had to place it four times,
plus the extra inches, to complete the circle.
It is so amazing that
these pictures do not do the
trees justice.
We have not tired of
"walking among the Redwoods"
It is my 6th Grade Dream
come true.
Whenever we see a slice of a tree,
I find myself wanting to
show you the girth of the tree
by standing by it,
and stretching to my full height
plus my extended arm
which is 78 inches,
and still a few more inches
above my finger tips.
Some of the trees have "see through"
hollows in their trunks.
This one made a nice frame
for a picture of Russ.
They are still living
with full tops.
One last shot. I would have liked to
stand in the hollow of this root,
but it was not easy to access it.
I could easily have stood inside it.
We often hear folks speak of a
HIGHER POWER.
The creator of all this
beauty should be
very convincing proof
that there is a
HIGHER POWER
We could feel it so profoundly
as we
"Walked among the Redwoods"
this week.
