We had a leisurely morning, including a nice phone chat with our Grandson, because he had posted on Facebook that he had visited the Grand Canyon, yesterday. It doesn't seem possible we will be there ourselves, in September. He was driving to his next Army assignment, and was happy for our company on his journey.
So, it was almost Noon when we headed out to visit Cape Meares Lighthouse, just 17 miles from
Pleasant Valley RV Park in Tillamook, OR. Cape Meares' claim to Lighthouse fame is that it is
the Shortest lighthouse on the Oregon coast. It was operational between 1890 and 1963.
We had fun shopping at their Gift Shop, and purchased a Lighthouse Journal which keeps all our Lighthouse experiences in one place. We learned that each Lighthouse has its own stamp pad image,
to stamp on a blank page which you complete with pertinent information about your visit. Cape
Meares is our third Lighthouse on this 30th Anniversary Journey.
We also purchased a book to guide us to the various Lighthouses on the West Coast entitled:
THE DeWIRE GUIDE TO LIGHTHOUSES OF THE PACIFIC COAST,
California, Oregon and Washington
by Elinor DeWire, ISBN:978-0939837-86-1.
Last but not least, Russ bought another pin for his hat.
CAPE MEARES LIGHTHOUSE

The Octopus TREE
which is a Sitka Spruce,
in the Cape Meares Park.
On our way back from Cape Meares we stopped in Tillamook,
at the Latimer Quilt & Textile Center.
I viewed these marvelous quilts by their featured artist:
Helene KNOT
They had at least 40 to 50 of her works, and kits for sale,
so folks could make them too.
We picked up a copy of two brochures,
entitled TILLAMOOK COUNTY QUILT TRAILS,
one was for WALK OUR BLOCKS and the other for the first QUILT TRAIL
on the West Coast, established in 2009, by the Tillamook County Quilt Trail Coalition.
These are just a few of the 13 blocks attached to the sides of buildings
in their Town and Country treasure hunt trail.
